Charles Doebler, Chairman of the PCBUG Genealogy SIG, invited everyone to the next monthly meeting on November 24th. Jeff Biluea from the Naples FreeNet's DPI SIG (Digital Photo Imaging) will present "Making your own family history slide show".

Send e-mail to cdoebler@comcast.net.

Today's feature program was a presentation by Don Beach, PCBUG Webmaster and also a Microsoft Partner. Don gave an extensive overview of Microsoft's new operating system Windows 7, which was released on October 22nd. He discussed many of the new features and capabilities as well as comparing major improvements over the previous Vista operating system. Don also noted that because of the many enhancements in Windows 7 he will likely present new segments at upcoming monthly meetings in 2010.

Highlights of the October 2009 Monthly Membership Meeting

Vice President/Program Director Bob Graham opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and recognizing the guests and new members.

Charles Doebler, Chairman of the Genealogy SIG, invited everyone to the next monthly meeting on October 27th. The program will include discussions on researching genealogy.

Today our speaker was Mr. Hank Ventry, a popular instructor with the Collier County Adult Education program. The topics of his presentation were Microsoft Word (word processing) and Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets). He demonstrated not only many of the basic features of both applications but also many tips and shortcuts. Basic formatting techniques for Word were included as well as Mail Merge using a data table from Excel. Frequent use of the mouse prompted him to demonstrate certain functions such as click (left click is understood unless specified otherwise), the difference between a double-click and two clicks. For the right click button, he demonstrated the common functions and the use of triple-click, a feature unknown to most computer users.

Mr. Ventry provided copies of the current catalog of Adult and Community Education current schedule of classes. Visit www.collieradulted.com for further information. Also available at this meeting were catalogs of the Collier County Public Library adult programs. Many free classes are offered on a variety of topics including computer related subjects. Visit www.colliergov.net/library for more detail.
